We spent Madeline’s actual first birthday celebrating as a little family of three. We went to downtown Charleston and Toys R Us the day before to buy her some little stuff that would be just from her mom and dad. The actual day of her birthday the movers came, so we dealt with that all day, then went out to eat, opened presents, and ate a giant cupcake. It wasn’t the way I envisioned celebrating her first year of life, but it was wonderful in its own way.
We gave her that pink football, the walking alligator, another ball (not pictured), the railroad track, and some extra trains. It was nothing exciting, though Derek was pretty into the trains and specifically requested that as her gift, but it was all stuff she likes and can play with for now.
Here is her “blowing out her candle and eating her cake”. She was so dainty about the whole thing, using her pincher grasp to take tiny little pieces of frosting, until Derek smashed her hand in it – then she rubbed it on the table and licked it off.
