I apologize for the lack of blogs. It definitely hasn’t been for lack of material…we’ve just been crazy busy and I think we’ve both been a little emotionally overwhelmed.
I’ll start with the good updates.
A good friend from college and her adorable family came to visit the first week of Sept. It was so nice having them here, though it made me miss home a little. They have the cute incredibly well behaved baby and he puts my baby to shame. I’m pretty sure he cried like 3 times all week, as opposed to her 30 times at least. Its kind of exciting to watch him grow and know that those are the milestones she’ll be hitting soon.
Speaking of milestones…she rolled over!!!! She did it for the first time on labor day and I almost got it on tape. I do have a few other tapes of her repeating it but Derek has to put them online so I can put them on here.
After they left, my grandparents came and my granddad got to meet the baby for the first time. Unfortunately, they had a little accident on the shuttle at the airport and both of them were a little woozy and beat up, but it was nice to spend time with them. Madeline loved Gran and instantly fell asleep on her any time Gran had her…it was magic.
Derek started school, which means he is pretty busy. His Tues/Thurs are nightmares and he is pretty much gone from the house from 5AM – 9 PM. By the time he gets home the baby is pretty sick of just seeing my face all day!
On the not so bright side…we did find out that she has tested positive for a genetic disorder called biotinidase deficiency.
Basically, it means her body can’t break down certain proteins to get the vitamin biotin from them and recycle it through her body. After arguing with the insurance for days, we finally saw a geneticist and basically we won’t have any clear answers until we get her blood test results back. There is a possibility that she doesn’t actually have the deficiency or is just a carrier for it, which is what we’re hoping for. Meanwhile, we’re putting her on the supplement of biotin (which is the treatment for the deficiency and its what she will have to take for the rest of her life if she actually does have the deficiency) and just waiting to see what will happen. It isn’t the end of the world and we still have a healthy baby, so we can’t complain, but it has been a little stressful (dealing with the insurance, doctors, trying to find a pharmacy that will fill her prescription because CVS or RiteAid won’t) and emotional for both of us. Its hard to imagine that you gave your baby something that makes them less than 100% percent healthy but at the same time, it could have been something so so much worse.
We have her 2 month appointment on monday so we’ll update weight and height then.
she has grown since i was there! she is so beautiful. i can't wait to get my hands on her in a few more weeks! love to you all.
